USE OF A MEDICAL MASK DURING THE COVID-19 OUTBREAK
Why use a medical mask?
A medical mask or surgical/face mask is a medical device intended to prevent the projection of droplets emitted by the person wearing the mask. It also protects the wearer against projections of droplets emitted by a person facing him or her. However, it does not protect against inhalation of very small airborne particles.
A medical mask completes the current measures in force to prevent the spread of the virus such as social distancing (1 meter minimum) and barrier gestures (washing hands very regularly, coughing or sneezing in the elbow, using disposable tissues, greeting without shaking hands, etc.).
The above measures must imperatively be respected and maintained, the wearing of a medical mask does not replace them!
How to put on a medical mask:
1. wash your hands with soap and water or hand sanitizer before putting on the mask
2. carefully remove the mask from its box without touching the other masks
3. place the mask on the face, the rigid edge up and the logo outside
4. attach the mask without touching its central part by passing the earloops behind the ears
5. pinch the nasal bar to adjust it to the level of the nose and lower the bottom of the mask under the chin
How to remove a medical mask:
1. wash your hands with soap and water or hand sanitizer before removing the mask
2. grasp the earloops behind the ears and remove the mask without touching its central part
3. throw the mask in a trash can with a plastic bag
4. wash your hands again with soap and water or hand sanitizer
Keep in mind:
– a medical mask is designed for a single-use only
– it should be changed as soon as it gets wet and at least every 4 hours
– a medical mask should cover the nose, the mouth and the chin
– make sure your mask is placed as tightly as possible
– do not touch your mask once it has been put on
– do not remove your mask to speak, cough or sneeze
– never wear your mask under your chin, on your neck, or on your forehead
– a beard can reduce the seal of the mask on the face and reduces its effectiveness
– ideally, wearing a mask is accompanied by security glasses
